Planning Applications

Two significant planning applications have been submitted recently in the Aldenham Road/Ye Corner area. Neither is a total surprise, both being sites where development proposals have seemed likely to come forward for some time.

At 9–13 Aldenham Road, the applicants are seeking to demolish an industrial unit (next to the Railway public house) and build a total of 15 one- and two-bedroom flats. To view and comment on the plans go to http://pa.watford.gov.uk/publicaccess/search.do?action=simple – the planning application reference number is 17/00685/FULM.

There is also a an application to build 15 flats on land behind Ye Corner, including the site of 48 Chalk Hill. To view and comment on the plans go to http://pa.watford.gov.uk/publicaccess/search.do?action=simple – the planning application reference number is 17/00654/FULM.

We sometimes get asked about the shortness of the consultation period on planning applications, which give little time to make comments. The statutory period for consultation is 21 days and this can’t be changed, but in practice Watford Council will accept and consider comments and objections received after the formal deadline, right up to when the decision is made.

I completely object to this, the additional stress on services and traffic flow just further stretches the arches area, god knows the complications when the build would be underway with lorries snarling up the roads which do not flow anymore anyway.
Lets not forget the development opposite this which has flooding issues to this day, how can the same infrastructure cope.

I hope that these two plans for more flats get approved as Watford needs more housing right now.

Are they serious? How much more development can this over crowded area take. We still have the stables to cope with which will increase traffic. I can only imagine non of the planning committee live in this area. The Arches, Pinner Road, Aldenham Road and London Road can’t handle the traffic now and yet more housing seems to be planned in this small circle. We have had the top of Vale Road developed, now the bottom of Aldenham Road near the other end of Vale Road, HSBC bank looking to be redeveloped. On top of the old Thames water site, and Taggerts….Why can’t somewhere else have new housing we DONT want it.
